#Windows Insiders Being Enrolled Into Redstone
Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful! Windows Insiders are reportedly being enrolled into the program for Redstone, the codename for the next major refresh of Windows 10 due out next year.
This, after the release of the cumulative update for the OS that was just launched.
Apparently, Microsoft has done what needed to be done for this Threshold update for the platform, and is now ready to shift focus towards Redstone — the next large scale refresh that is on track for release sometime in 2016.
Development of which is, actually, underway, and has been for some time now. Well and truly.
Members of the Windows Insider Program have been seeing small hints of the Redstone update since last week in the Settings menu of the operating system.
The ‘rs1_release’ branch came to the fore after the RTM build of the November Update (Threshold 2) was distributed among testers. Hinting that perhaps, with things underway, the release of this next major refresh may be closer than initially thought.
For Windows Insiders, that is, the first test preview build of Redstone.
Anyway, as noted, it now appears that Windows Insiders are now being enrolled to the ‘rs1_release’ branch within their registries, as this image below so aptly displays:
Just navigate to the following path to see this change, and find out whether you are enlisted:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\Applicability
That said, the name rs1 seems to be the hint towards the first of two waves of Redstone, rumored to arrive next summer. The second one, then, probably will be out by winter.
Thanks Steve for telling us !! Cheers !!
